About the client

Five Star Business Finance is exploring options on AWS cloud as part of the data centre exit strategy. They currently have challenges of scale and availability. This is due to lack of app environment segregation (Non-Prod and Prod), and co-hosting of multiple applications on the same server. The customer also suffers from a lack of backup and data archival strategy, accumulating large volumes of data on disk in the servers.

  1. Migration from On-Premise to AWS: Relocating LOS, LMS, and Collection banking applications to AWS while accommodating both customer-facing and internal banking applications.
  2. Scalability and Growth Support: Ensuring the scalability of systems to support potential growth in customer accounts and transaction volumes.
  3. Infrastructure End-of-Life Replacement: Replacing aging hardware infrastructure within the on-premise banking setup.
  4. Security and Compliance: Implementing stringent security controls, ensuring compliance with banking industry standards.
  5. Minimal Downtime and Impact: Minimizing downtime during migration to avoid disruptions to banking operations.
  6. Operational Monitoring and Backup: Setting up a detailed operating model with real-time monitoring and robust backup procedures for critical banking systems.
  7. Cost Optimization: Assessing and deducing the total cost of ownership (TCO) by migrating to AWS and implementing cost-effective measures.

  1. Applications and Databases Migration: Migrating key banking systems to AWS, including customer portals and internal databases.
  2. Connectivity with Financial Partners: Establishing secure Direct Connect and site-to-site VPN for seamless connectivity with financial partner institutions.
  3. Security Implementation: Utilizing AWS security services (Inspector, Config, GuardDuty) at the account level, enforcing strict security controls to safeguard sensitive financial data.
  4. Landing Zone Implementation: Creating a secure Landing Zone with a multi-account setup using AWS CloudFormation.
  5. Operational Model Setup: Developing and implementing a comprehensive operational model, including advanced monitoring and backup procedures tailored for banking operations.
  6. Performance Optimization: Implementing AWS Dedicated hosts for EC2 instances to optimize the performance of banking applications and monitoring resource allocation for optimal performance.

Success Area

  1. A successful migration from on-premise to AWS.
  2. Enhanced scalability and support for potential growth.
  3. Improved infrastructure resilience, ensuring minimal downtime and uninterrupted banking services.
  4. Implementation of stringent security measures and compliance with industry standards.
  5. A comprehensive operational model that ensures real-time monitoring and robust backup procedures.
